Have you ever sat there picking at your skin only to find a few moments later, you're covered in red blotches? It always seems like a good idea at the time, followed by instant regret.
Now, one woman on Reddit has revealed how she manages to refrain from the ever so tempting picking - and it sounds like a pretty decent idea to us!
Writing on the forum, she shared an image of her arm after one such picking episode.
"For my skin-pickers!! Almond-shaped acrylic nails make it much harder to break skin, and nearly impossible to get a satisfactory 'pop'," she said.
"Therapist recommended to me for compulsive picking, and one month later I have FINALLY kicked the habit, just in time for my wedding next month!"
Genius! And the perfect excuse to get your nails done.
Others totally agreed with the idea, having tried it themselves with nail extensions.
One wrote: "Yes! Dip powder nails have made picking my scalp all but impossible. Unintended bonus!"
While another commented: "I just file my natural nails in this shape and it works for me. I liked the look and not being able to pick was an unexpected albeit frustrating bonus."
Others said having the extensions helps with nail biting and picking habits too, with one writing: "I’m a nail picker (not biter) and gave myself a nasty nail infection.
"I decided enough was enough and started getting my nails done. I told my nail lady the reason why I’m getting my nails done. I made the comment it’s a lot harder to pick my nails with a gel manicure. It still happens but not to the extreme it was.
"She gave me the best compliment: she said she can tell I’m not picking my nails as much because I don’t have hangnails, my cuticles look great and the gel paint is lasting! I’ve never had such nice nails!"
Another person offered some additional advice, explaining: "It's also OK if your spots haven't completely healed for your wedding day. Your partner loves you exactly as you are. They're standing in front of all your family and friends and declaring their undying love for you."
Brb, just off to get our nails done!
