Post Office Names Cheapest Holiday Destination Of 2019
Time to beat off those January blues in the best way you know how - book yourself a sun-soaked holiday.
It doesn't have to cost the earth either, as the Post Office has handily revealed the cheapest holiday destinations of 2019 in its annual report, and Sunny Beach, Bulgaria has come in top spot for a second year running.
Using data from tourist boards and tour operators to calculate the cost of eight holiday staples, the Post Office has compiled a list of 10 cheap as chips destinations for you to jet off to.
The staples are as follows: a meal for two, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a Coca-Cola, a glass of wine, a bottle of water, sun cream and insect repellent.
The numbers are then totted up across 42 cities and resorts to determine the cheapest overall holiday destination, based on this 'World Holiday Costs Barometer' (WHCB).
So, here's the cheapest holiday destinations of the year:
10. Bali, Indonesia - £69.49
9. Paphos, Cyprus - £63.35.
8. Prague, Czech Republic - £56.87
7. Mombasa, Kenya - £55.87
6. Tokyo, Japan- £55.55
5. Costa del Sol, Spain - £54.12
4. Cape Town, South Africa- £53.40
3. Algarve, Portugal - £50.11
2. Marmaris, Turkey - £45.23
1. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria - £36.03
The average price for a glass of vino at Sunny Beach is an amazing £1.23, and a bottle of water is just pennies at 39p.
If you thought the wine was cheap, a bottle of beer is just 59p and your bill at the end of a meal for two will come to around £27.44.
A can of cola is actually more expensive than the beer at 74p, and a cup of coffee in the morning will set you back the same price as the pop.
Insect repellent and sun cream both average out at £2.45, meaning it's worth waiting until you land to pick up these two holiday staples.
Tourist forums suggest that cocktails are just a few quid while out on the town.
Obviously, it's worth noting that flights and accommodation aren't taken into account here, so a Europe destination not on the list might still be cheaper than jetting off to Tokyo or Cape Town.
Trip to Sunny Beach, anyone?
