Blue tick, be gone.

We've all been there: the group WhatsApp chat is pinging every two seconds, and although we really want to know the goss, sometimes we're too busy (or, frankly, can't be arsed) to reply.

If this sounds like you, then you'll definitely want to know about the genius iPhone hack that allows you to read your messages *without* opening them.

The trick lets you view your texts without sending the dreaded blue tick - because as we all know, once that happens, you're obliged to reply.

And if you're anything like us, if you don't respond straight away, here's a good chance you'll totally forget. Oops.

It's especially handy on group conversations where *everyone* is chipping in (and you're expected to respond, too) or if you're in a social situation and can't commit to a full-on reply.

So how does it work? Well, most new iPhones come with a 3D Touch function - a handy new feature which allows us to read our WhatsApps without opening them.

When a message comes in that you don't want to open, simply hold down the icon and you'll see a full preview of the entire text.

Be careful though, if you simply tap the message instead of holding it, you'll be taken straight to the WhatsApp chat and obviously, the blue tick will appear.

If you don't have an iPhone, there's another trick to try (

It's perfect if you need a bit of time to think of a response without the added pressure, or if you're preoccupied but can't resist hearing the goss.

And if you don't have the new function - or don't have an iPhone - we do have another trick up our sleeves.

If you receive a message you don't want to open, simply turn your phone into aeroplane mode and *then* read it. But ensure WiFi is switched off, or you'll have a blue tick situation on your hands.

You've been warned...
