A rare white reindeer has been spotted by a photographer in Norway and its fur is so white that it almost disappears into the snow. The adorable baby reindeer definitely looks Christmas card worthy and it has got us feeling all festive.

Reindeers which are pure white are extremely rare and photographer Mads Nordsveen describes meeting the reindeer as a 'magical experience'.

Definitely not shy, the reindeer appeared to 'pose' for shots after it was spotted with its brown coloured mum while Mads was on a hiking trip.

As most calves are born in May each year this little one would only have been a few months old which makes the image even more adorable..

The 24-year-old said: "I was walking in the mountains looking for nice landscapes for my travel photography when out of nowhere I saw this wonderful little creature.

The photographer described the moment as magical. (

"He came very close to me and we looked at each other straight in the eyes.

"He was quite relaxed when he saw that I was calm and friendly. It was almost as if he posed for the camera. He was very curious and fun. Like a little explorer.

"After some minutes the mother of the baby reindeer came out of trees just behind. It walked around for some minutes before running back to its mother.

White reindeer are not classed as albino because their eyes and their antlers still have dark pigmentation. (

"It was very magical and a fairy tale moment.

"Maybe one day we'll meet again."

White reindeer have an uncommon genetic mutation that strips their fur of pigment to allow them to blend into their snowy surroundings.

However, white reindeer are not classed as albino although they my look it because their eyes and sometimes their antlers still have dark pigmentation.

In Sweden white reindeer are believed to be good luck and it is said that all herders should have a white reindeer in their herd.
