The Ecoegg Laundry Egg is a nontoxic, phosphate-free and hypoallergenic alternative to detergent. Translation: it cleans clothes without soap.

It's filled with white mineral pellets which dissolve over time and dark ceramic pellets which never need replacing.

Just throw it on top of clothes, towels or bedding in the washing machine and the light and dark pellets work to gently lift away dirt during the cycle.

When the white pellets are about half their original size (which takes around 72 washes), just top-up with the new pellets included in your original purchase.

You can opt for a set for £7.99 that lasts for 54 washes, £12.99 for 210 loads or £19.99 for 720.

Just leave the egg to air-dry after each wash.

If you get the 720-wash option and four or five loads per week that translates into just £20 to do laundry for three years.
