For those of us who struggle with our Christmas tree lights every single year, one simple home hack could transform our lives.

Apparently, we've all been hanging our Christmas tree lights wrong this whole time, and who knew?

According to TikTok user Clare Hooper (aka @mrsclarehoops) the correct way to hang your lights from your tree is vertically - rather than horizontally as we've been doing since the dawn of time. And, honestly, it makes so much sense.

The viral video, which has already had 2.4 million views, shows the right way to hang your lights and our minds are blown with how simple it is!

"This method saved me so many times," Clare captioned in her post, and we couldn't agree more.

"If you're coiling your Christmas tree lights, you're doing it wrong," the video, set to a soundtrack of festive classic Rockin Around the Christmas Tree, begins.

Clare, who used to decorate Christmas trees as part of her job, then reveals the nifty trick that helped her, hanging trees vertically from the top of the tree.

"We used the zig zag method," she reveals. "It means you don't waste lights round the back of your tree and if a set breaks you can take them off really easily."

Clare then reveals a fully decorated tree - complete with baubles and expertly hung lights.

Take a look at the ingenious video below:

Posted at the end of November, Clare demonstrates just how easy this festive trick is, and we can't believe no one alerted us to this hack earlier.

In other festive hacks, one woman's incredible trick for how to get your favourite chocolates out of the tub without breaking the seal is genius tbh.

Meanwhile, here's how to keep the wrapping paper roll in place while you're wrapping your presents this year.

BRB, just going to rehang the lights!
