You and your own Santa's Little Helper could celebrate the festive season in style by visiting this dog café's winter grotto!
Café K9 is making a comeback with its super popular 'Santa Paws Grotto' this year. The café is in Concord where sisters Layla Lowery and Kerry O’Hare took over the establishment in 2020 and spent months refurbishing the inside and expanding the outdoor seating area.
The canine-friendly café has a bunch of events for you and your pet but perhaps the most exciting of all is happening in the lead-up to Christmas.
You can dress up your puppy and get them to meet Santa Paws - a massive dog version of Santa Claus that the dogs can come to visit. At the same time, you can also grab yourself a cuppa.
The Santa's grotto appears in the garden area to the café and your pooch can take a picture with Santa Paws with a festive background, so it can have pride of place on your mantelpiece.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Layla’s husband Steve Lowery (who has the very important job of wearing the Santa Paws costume) said: “We did a Santa Paws event last year to try and offer a laugh during Covid and thought if we could get 10 or 15 people turning up that would be great. We ended up having over 100 people and their dogs turn up throughout the month and people just seemed to love it.

“It’s a really fun thing to do and the photo makes a nice keepsake. Dogs will get a special bag of treats and afternoon tea will be available too.
"It’s great being Santa Paws, it was a bit daunting last year but it was good fun and I’m looking forward to doing it again, it’s a great community event.”
The first Santa Paws grotto will be available to visit on Saturday 4th December and will then be around every Saturday up until Christmas.
Time to get those jingle bells onto your dog's collar and head down to Café K9! As they say, 'tis the season after all!
