Dad accused of drugging smoothies at daughter’s sleepover carried out 'tests' while they slept

Dad accused of drugging smoothies at daughter’s sleepover carried out 'tests' while they slept

Oregon dad Michael Meyden handed himself into the police last week

Last week, an Oregon father handed himself into the police and was accused of drugging three 12-year-old girls who were attending his own daughter's sleepover party last summer.

Since then, Lake Oswego Police Department has indicted 57-year-old Michael Meyden on nine felony and misdemeanour charges - including causing another individual to ingest a controlled substance.

He allegedly dosed his daughter's friends' drinks with benzodiazepine, turning himself into the authorities on 29 February, six months since the crime took place.

Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, he was subsequently taken to Clackamas County Jail, and since then, disturbing details of this harrowing case have been released by police.

Arguably the most sadistic element of Meyden's alleged crime, is that he is said to have conducted 'tests' on the three underage girls whose drinks he had allegedly laced.

The Oregonian reported last summer that investigating officers were originally called to Randall Children’s Hospital on 26 August to speak to the three girls, who believed that their friend's father had drugged them the evening prior.

The youngsters claimed that, during their sleepover, Meyden had been unusually involved in the evening's proceedings, consistently checking in on them throughout the night.

The girls later told authorities that he'd delivered them a batch of mango smoothies between 9 and 11pm, which appeared to have 'tiny white chunks throughout and sprinkled on top'.

Meyden reportedly encouraged the girls to consume the drinks, and even whipped them up a second batch when one of them admitted she wasn't keen on the taste.

Investigating officers later alleged that the probable affidavit was that Meyden had drugged the girls, after the pre-teen that secretly didn't finish her drink claimed she witnessed him entering the room and performing 'tests' on them to suss if they were sleeping.

As reported by the Lake Oswego Review, she told investigating officers she saw her friend's father putting a finger under one of their noses and waving a hand in front of another's face.

She allegedly told police she could 'feel him watching her by his presence as she kept her eyes shut, pretending to be asleep'.

Luckily, the girl in question secretly texted her mother a chilling message, asking her to collect her from the Lake Oswego property, admitting she was scared.

She wrote: "Mom please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don’t feel safe. I might not respond but please come get me (crying emoji), Please. Please pick up. Please. PLEASE!!"

She then contacted a family friend who came to pick her up and alerted her parents, who were asleep.

Another devastating text sent by the girl read: "So I’m 'sleeping', and her dad comes down and [I’m] hugging [one of the other girls] because she was scared, and he kept moving us away from each other but kept doing tests to make sure we weren’t awake."

At the hospital, investigating officers claimed one of the girls 'walked slowly and used the assistance of her mother for balance, her eyelids were heavy, and she spoke slowly'.

Lake Oswego Police Department later declared that Meyden was allegedly 'responsible for the drugs detected in the girls' bloodstreams'.
