Spy Kids star Alexa PenaVega and her husband Carlos have announced they’ve heartbreakingly suffered a stillbirth.

Taking to Instagram, Alexa, 35, and Carlos, 34, wrote: "There are never the right words to say when it comes to a loss. After a beautiful and peaceful delivery our daughter ‘Indy’ was born at rest."

“It has been a painful journey,” the statement continued. “But in the pain we have found peace. God continues to comfort and hold us in his arms.

“The prayers from the community around us have been so sustaining in this difficult season. This little girl has already changed our lives in so many ways.”

The announcement said that Indy had resembled her father when she was born and that grief was engulfing the pair ‘in waves’.

They continued: "Moments of feeling absolutely gutted… then moments of feeling blessed by just getting a moment with her. We can’t understand why things like this happen and we may never get those answers."

In conclusion, the pair wrote that their child had ‘changed’ their world and that she had given them the ‘community we have been longing for’.

“We love you and can’t wait to see how many other lives you change,” they added.

Following the post, famous friends of the couple have come out in their droves to pledge their support.

Carlos’ Big Time Rush bandmate James Maslow commented: “Here for you guys. Can’t image what you’re going through.”

Fellow Nickelodeon actor Daniella Monet wrote: “So so sorry Alexa and Carlos, can’t begin to imagine what this loss feels like. You are held, loved, and protected and you know that. Praying your pain away.”

Alexa’s Spy Kids co-star Daryl Sabara said: “Love you so so much.”

Pretty Little Liars’ Keegan Allen also took to the post and shared: “My prayers are on you and Indy.”

Alexa and Carlos met back in 2012 at a Bible study programme and soon announced their engagement in September 2013.

A year later, the couple headed to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they tied the knot and made the decision to fuse their surnames.

Their second son, Kingston, four, was delivered in 2019 and their first daughter, Rio, two, followed in 2021. The couple announced that their second daughter was on the way in November 2023.

At the time of the reveal, the Sleepover actor wrote: “Thank God we love adventures. Oh baby here we come! Número cuatro!”

Alexa is best known for portraying Carmen Cortez in 2001’s Spy Kids, as well as sequels Sky Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.

In 2011, she reprised her role as Carmen in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World but did not return for the fifth instalment of the series, Spy Kids: Armageddon.
