Luther fans, the time has come. Idris Elba has confirmed that filming for a Luther movie will begin later this year. Yaas!
The actor, 48, confirmed a film version of the popular crime drama was in the works last year, after the BBC series ended back in 2019.
Speaking to MistaJam at the All-New Capital Weekender, Idris - who played DCI John Luther in the TV show - explained his plans for the year.

"Definitely making more music, people that love my film and stuff, listen, I'm going to be making Luther: The Movie," he said.
"I'm super excited and I hope the fans are sort of excited for that. It's been a long time coming for a movie, for people that have loved the show. We've been making the show for 10 years, so we're making a film."
Idris finally announced the movie was on its way after months of speculation.
"I've maintained I'd like to see it come to a film, and that is where I think we are heading towards - a film. And I'm looking forward to making that happen. It is happening," he said last year.

"... With film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit more bold with the storylines, and a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John is always going to be John Luther."
He also discussed the idea back in 2018, telling our friends over at LADBible: "For me it would be nice to take Luther up a scale. Make the storyline bigger, make it slightly more international."
Created by Neil Cross, Luther first hit our screens in 2010 and to date Elba has won two Golden Globes and a Royal Television Society best actor award for his performance.

The hit series also made a star of Ruth Wilson who played narcissistic murderer Alice Morgan, who shares a love-hate, cat-and-mouse relationship with John throughout the series.
Hopefully this means the movie will be arriving in our lives ASAP! More as it comes...
